Lovely article.

I really want to get in to this mood of investing in bit more expensive for some pieces. Im always using denim and t-shirt and as Im getting older, I want to improve my style, look more mature (haha)

Really want to change, because I like the simple ways. Im starting with some linen pants, getting inspired by a friend, but I need to put lot more effort on it.

Your articles (and tiktok) always inspire me :)

thank you for sharing <3

Excellent food for thought, thanks Amelia! No florals for me although my daughter bought me a beautiful boho skirt with a few small flowers on it which I love. Some of my summer skirts have patterns but are simple designs. I prefer neutrals and clean lines with minimal fuss so no frills, thanks. I could wear t-shirts almost every day. They go with everything. I have olive skin and dark green eyes so pastels are a no-no. But occasionally I like pink! Is this off piste? My apartment’s interior is no frills, also. Is this a coincidence?

Pink has so many shades, there is surely a good pink for olive skin. And I don't think fashion and interior styles are separate things, I think personal style extends to all of life.

Hey Amelia - I have followed you since the start and loved your journey (until you fell ill.) Sending healing love!

I am amidst my own personal transformation. I have lost more than 70 lbs and am in process of retooling everything! I would finally love to create a style that makes it easy to shop and dress.

I really liked this article and it makes so much sense. I am not quite sure where to start and often find myself resisting something because it looks terrific on the person wearing heels, and I insist on flat shoes - how much does that need to be a consideration for a given style or look?

I am starting to appreciate that keeping things to a simple set of colors is a good start for me, partly because then anything I choose from the closet is a match!

I am also in the no heels camp. Other than the heels, assess what you like about the outfit in the inspo pic. Look across all your inspo pics, is there a common thread besides the heels? If not, then try and find inspo that includes flat shoes. I can admire pics of people in heels but that isn’t going to help me get dressed and buy better because that’s not an element I’m willing to negotiate on. Same with super tight clothes or elegant drapey clothes - great on other people but not for me. Make sure your inspo matches your strategy.

this article was so helpful. i cannot wear beige or cream unless the fabric is very high sheen - like satin. I love florals, but only in very tailored, preppy cuts. as much as i want to think i like boho, i really hate it on my body - leave it for bedspreads and curtains i say. we share a lot of style choices, like contrast, leaning towards menswear, and little-to-no romantic flounces.

Do you think your fashion style can be different from your interior style? I’m interested as I don’t think I could do a boho house even though I admire the style in others. I think my interior style is an extension of my fashion style (though moderated by my husband’s taste too, much to my chagrin at times. How dare he have an opinion! 😜)

oh my, amelia - if not i’m in trouble! my house is a study in gray and beige backdrops on which we apply sporadic bursts and flourishes of whatever we like, including some boho bed linens. you’ve really got me thinking!
